The ruling, which comes on the eve of the midterm elections, essentially ends the Trump administration's bid to disqualify the ballots in the state.
The Supreme Court on Monday rejected President Trump's effort to set aside California ballots from 20,000 alleged noncitizens. CBS News' Jessica Levinson has more.
The swift rejection was the latest in a flurry of election-related litigation the day before the elections, which will decide control of Congress for the last two years of Trump's second term. No justices publicly dissented.
Earlier Monday, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to order California election officials to set aside mail ballots from 20,000 people it alleges are noncitizens.
California says any move to block ballots from suspected noncitizens could disenfranchise eligible voters.
