The ruling came as the centre's Trump-appointed board was reportedly scheduled to vote on closing it for two years.
The Trump-aligned board at the Kennedy Centre voted in August to inscribe the president's name on the venue's facade so it would read "The John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated By President Donald J Trump."
The announcement came after President Trump said he would cancel a $257 million renovation of the venue if his name is not returned to the building.
