US Central Command says its forces struck three Iranian crude oil carriers on Saturday.
The strikes were carried out after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships, CENTCOM said.
The strikes come nearly a week after fighting between the US and Iran flared again following weeks of relative calm.
In a post on X, the US Central Command said that the aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer successfully avoided "multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks".
