Legal relief for ex-BCCI officials, including Lalit Modi, as tribunal quashes ED penalties in IPL 2009 case‎

Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has claimed a major legal victory after the Appellate Tribunal under SAFEMA set aside penalties imposed on him in connection with the 2009 Indian Premier League held in South Africa. The ruling came after more than 16 years of investigations and legal proceedings. According to Modi, the tribunal rejected the Enforcement Directorate's main argument by ruling that the foreign remittances linked to IPL 2009 were current account transactions, not capital account transactions.
