Apple's contract-style subscription payments for annual subscriptions have arrived on the App Store. Here's the details of how they work, and what to look out for.Apple is letting developers offer a new subscriptionAnnual subscriptions are usually cheaper than monthly plans, but until recently, require upfront payment before users know if an app is worth a long-term commitment. Apple is now offering a contract-style subscription system for some third-party App Store apps, allowing users to spread annual pricing across monthly payments.The tradeoff is that users still commit to a full year of payments even if they cancel early. Instead of paying for an annual subscription all at once, users can spread the cost across monthly payments while agreeing to complete a 12-month commitment.Developers get a lower-looking monthly price without giving up the predictability of an annual-style subscription. Monthly payment options are available for select third-party subscription services running on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 or later.
