President Donald Trump reposted a racist video clip on his Truth Social account late Thursday night that depicted former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes.
Seconds before the video ends, an AI-generated clip begins with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” playing in the background, and apes with Obama faces dancing in the frame.
As a black Republican senator calls it "the most racist thing I've seen out of this White House", the administration says "stop the fake outrage".
The footage is included in a video that promotes false claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against Mr. Trump.
The White House press secretary dismissed criticism of the clip’s racist content, shared by the president’s Truth Social account, as “fake outrage.”
