The European Union approved new sanctions targeting Iranian officials and designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist group over protest suppression and Russia support.
The European Union agreed Thursday to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard a "terrorist organisation" over a deadly crackdown on mass protests, sending a powerful message of condemnation to Tehran.
Israel welcomed the move, with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar calling it "an important and historic decision."
The move, which comes after the killing of protesters, brings the European Union in line with the United States and Canada.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas says the move is a response to Tehran's deadly crackdown on protesters.
