Video released by the US military shows troops boarding an oil tanker, said to have links to Venezuela.
The tanker, Veronica, was seized in a predawn operation "without incident", the US military's Southern Command says.
The seizure comes as President Trump is set to meet with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado Thursday at the White House.
