The Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday it has frozen federal child care funding for the state of Minnesota, citing viral fraud allegations.
Federal officials say they're freezing payments to child care centers in Minnesota while they investigate fraud claims. It comes after a conservative influencer posted a video claiming empty day care centers are receiving taxpayer funds. CBS News obtained surveillance video from one center showing kids being dropped off the same day the influencer filmed at that day care. Jonah Kaplan reports.
A federal investigation into alleged daycare fraud in Minnesota is growing and the Trump administration says it’s halting all federal child care payments to the state. It comes after a viral video racked up more than 100 million views online of YouTuber Nick Shirley, who describes himself as an independent journalist, says he went to ten childcare centers receiving federal and state subsidies and did not see children at the site.
