The two companies will team up to work on custom data centers as well as PC products.
Nvidia has agreed to invest $5 billion in Intel as part of a broader deal to together develop "multiple generations" of data center and PC products. Nvidia will buy Intel stock.
The deal between the chipmakers, whose fortunes have diverged sharply, includes plans to collaborate on technology to power artificial intelligence.
